Colorado Patio Misters Spring Startup for Fort Collins, Loveland and Greeley

Northern Colorado has a short, intense patio season. Fort Collins, Loveland and Greeley can see a late snow in May and then hit the 90s a few weeks later, so the day you put your Colorado Patio Misters back into service matters. Wait until overnight lows stay safely above freezing, then give the system a proper startup instead of just turning on the spigot.

Check the pump before it sees water

The Patio Misting System Pro uses an oil-lubricated, 3-piston pump, and the kit ships with an oil syringe for topping it up. The brand recommends 5W-30 (oil isn't included). Set the pump on a level surface in a shaded, ventilated spot, check the oil, and look over the GFCI plug and cord for anything a winter in the garage may have chewed or cracked.

Re-hang the line and replace tired seals

If you pulled the 1/4" tubing down in the fall, re-hang it with the C-clamps along the same beam or fascia, keeping the nozzle ports facing outward. Greeley and Loveland afternoons often bring a breeze off the plains, so a run on the downwind side of the patio cover usually works best. The kit includes extra O-rings; swap any coupler seal that looks flattened or dried out before you pressurize the line.

A clean stainless nozzle should spray an even, fine cone.

Flush first, then add the last nozzle

Leave the nozzle off the final coupler and run water through the line for a minute to push out dust, spider webs and anything that settled over the winter. Then thread the last stainless nozzle in and check every fitting for drips. If a nozzle sputters, soak it in vinegar or CLR for 30 minutes and try again.

Front Range water can leave mineral spots, so keep the included calcium inhibitor filter on the hose inlet. Homeowners with especially hard water can add a second inline filter, which The Patio Misting System suggests for hard-water areas.

Plan your fall shutdown now

Make a note of how you hung the line this spring. When the first hard freeze shows up in October, you'll drain the tubing and bring the pump indoors, and it goes much faster when you already know which clamps come off. The installation guide has the full five-step setup if you're starting from scratch.
