Colorado Patio Misters Fall Freeze Shutdown for Boulder, Broomfield and Longmont

Along the Front Range foothills, Boulder, Broomfield and Longmont can swing from a warm October afternoon to a hard freeze overnight. Leaving water in Colorado Patio Misters through that first freeze risks cracked fittings and a seized pump. A short shutdown ritual in mid-to-late fall keeps the system ready for next season.

Watch overnight lows, not calendar dates

Foothill microclimates vary. Boulder canyon edges cool faster than open Broomfield lots, and Longmont flats can still feel mild while a cold pocket settles overnight. When forecasts show consecutive nights near freezing, schedule the shutdown rather than waiting for snow.

Drain the line completely

Shut off the hose bib, disconnect the garden-hose inlet, and open the end of the run so residual water can escape. Walk the 1/4" tubing and tip low spots so nothing pools in a coupler. Cap the open ends once the line feels empty so dust stays out over winter.

Bring the pump indoors

The Patio Misting System Pro uses an oil-lubricated 3-piston pump. Carry it into a garage or utility room where temperatures stay above freezing. Wipe the exterior, check that the oil syringe is stored with it for spring top-ups (5W-30 is recommended; oil is not included), and coil the power cord with the GFCI plug dry.

Optional: pull the clamps or leave them

Some homeowners leave C-clamps on the fascia and only remove the tubing; others pull everything down for a cleaner winter look. Either works. If you leave clamps in place along Boulder deck beams, note the nozzle-port orientation so spring rehang goes faster.

When spring returns, reverse the steps and flush before the last nozzle goes in. The installation guide covers measuring, anchoring and first-run checks if anyone else in the household handles startup.
